GARYTALK.COM – From time to time, we reach back into some earlier commentary made a few years ago and republish it here. The following is from a blog I wrote on December 12, 2012, during the years our United States President was Barack Obama. It was written by me at the time in response to something someone posted on Facebook that was shared often by other Facebook members. The original message that was shared prompted me to write about it on a Google Blog I had started in January of 2011. My article was called “A Country of Many Religions and A Few Arrogant Attitudes”. Here is what I wrote:
GARYTALK.COM – David Obey celebrated his 80th birthday October 3rd, 2018. For those of you who may not remember Dave, he was a United States Congressman, representing the Wisconsin 7th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 2011. Obey (OH-Bee) was preceded by Melvin Laird, who resigned to take on the responsibility of Secretary of Defense in the Nixon administration. Prior to becoming a Congressman, Obey was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1963 and served there until 1969 when Laird took on the Secretary of Defense job. Obey’s work ethic and political ideals impressed me enough to influence my decision to try the political arena, myself, for a brief time.
GARYTALK.COM – It was great to see Candice Bergen on “The Late Show” with Steven Colbert recently (Wednesday, September 26, 2018). She was there to promote her return to television and CBS’s iconic “Murphy Brown” sitcom. She spent most of the time reminiscing about more than the old version of the show. A lot of the time was taken up telling Colbert about her date many years ago with our current president, Donald Trump, when she was a sweet, young, 18 year old student in the early 1960s.
GARYTALK.COM – Most true Journalists are NOT “the enemy of the people” and do NOT produce and publish “fake news” for their readers and viewers to consume, as the 45th United States President, Donald J. Trump, attempts to mislead his followers to believe. Coming from a career of gathering and reporting news as a Journalist for several decades, now that I’m semi-retired, I can’t resist weighing in on what’s been happening recently. President Trump is constantly confusing the issue, and, possibly purposely, or inadvertently, causing extreme harm to the American democracy, in many ways, but to narrow this down a bit, this is about his claims of “fake news”. Calling it that is far from the truth.
